Does Cider count as a portion of fruit?

No.  The only beverage that can be counted as a portion of fruit is fruit juice.  Apple juice or any other fruit juice can count as a portion – just 150ml is a portion but drinking more than this does not count as more portions.  Even if you drink more, fruit juice will only count as 1 of your portions.  One reason for this is that fibre is lost in processing.  Most people do not consume enough fibre and need to consume more for digestive health – fibre is like a workout for your insides!  All fruit and vegetables contain fibre and can be called super foods!  The Government’s 5 a day recommendation is actually a minimum – ideally we should be eating more, 8 for a woman and 10 for a man!
