Iron rich foods to help prevent anaemia 1


red meat
peas, beans (including baked beans) & lentils
oily fish
eggs
wholemeal bread
dried apricots or prunes
green vegetables especially spinach
fortified breakfast cereal

Quick & easy iron rich snack
*fortified breakfast cereals with chopped dried apricots
*boiled or poached egg with wholemeal toast

* Have something rich in vitamin C at the same time as this helps the body absorb some times of Iron.  Such as a glass of orange juice.

* Avoid drinking tea at meal times. 

* If you are taking iron tablets make sure you drink lots of water too.
